The Shadowy Place, written by Riley Rex during a course with One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, is a melancholy but upbeat dance-pop banger that tells the story of being stuck in a pit of anxiety and depression. Her dreamy vocals dance over the bass-led electro-pop instrumental, to contrast with the sad poetic themes within the lyrics, pulling the listener on a journey through the dark world of “The Shadowy Place.” While navigating the twists and turns, one might come across shadows beckoning them to play.
